Why I Love Writing & Why You Should Too

Introduction

For as long as I can remember, I have been enamored with language (in particular writing), This magical way in which words flow spontaneously from my mind and onto a blank page.

My writing journey began at a young age, with my love for reading and being able to spend time with some of the greatest minds in history, thinking to myself “hmm… well if they valued this reading, writing, and self-education thing so much, maybe I should too”

(and I think that when you love to read, you cannot help loving to write as well, but I digress).

Writing in its simplest form is to think and articulate oneself in a clear and competent way over whatever topic, medium, and duration of your choosing.

Picture writing like thinking in slow motion, but also at a million miles an hour.

Ideas flow out of you at light speed, but you have the power to discern and decide which ideas you want to convey.

You can journal, write poetry, emails, blogs, books, or any fleeting thoughts on a cocktail napkin.

It doesn’t really matter how you do it, as long as you get those words from within you, out.

Once you start to write often, you notice changes in the way you think, in the way you view the world, and yourself in the world, and the way you view others.

Writing has made me a lot more aware of my own limitations, but it has also paradoxically given me extraordinary confidence because at the very least, I am aware.

Whenever I feel an emotion or problems that need to be expressed, I no longer simply sit there and let them gnaw at my mind, I instead attempt to verbalize exactly how I’m feeling and viable solutions, and in the process of doing so I feel those emotions and problems fade away into oblivion.

Why You Should Write

If you are a person with a very jumbled and chaotic mind, writing is definitely right for you.

Writing allows you to turn even the most chaotic mind into a kingdom of order and poise.

Personally, I am the type of person who can become quickly overwhelmed with a hundred different things and attempt to try to juggle them all in my mind, but quickly realize that this is not a sustainable way of living.

It’s much better to map everything out with the written word and not try to remember everything.

When you get things from your mind coherently into words, it frees your brain up to be more present and aware of the things in front of you and will immeasurably improve your quality of life.

Writing plans, schedules, dreams, aspirations are a great way to motivate yourself whenever you may be going through a rough spot in life because at the very least you have some clearer ideas on what to do and how to live and what you should prioritize and focus on the most.

When you become a better writer you inevitably become a better thinker, your vocabulary improves, you begin to speak with such elegance, men and women everywhere cannot help but adore you and your intellect, you become extremely financially and intellectually wealthy, you become incredibly strong and muscular, and a gleam appears in your eye.

So what do you say, does writing have a special place in your heart? If you’re not sure how to start, either get a piece of paper, a computer, your phone, or a stone tablet, it doesn’t matter!

“It’s the beauty within us that makes it possible for us to recognize the beauty around us. The question is not what you look at but what you see.”

Henry David Thoreau
